How the factors are defined
Every factor comes from an exact definition: the inch is 2.54 cm, the foot 0.3048 m, and the acre 43,560 square feet. The converter multiplies by the size of the first unit in meters (or square or cubic meters) and divides by the size of the second, so results are exact up to the digits shown.
Questions
How many square feet are in an acre?
One acre is exactly 43,560 square feet, about 4,046.86 square meters or 0.4047 hectares.

What is a chain or a rod in an old deed?
A chain (Gunter's chain) is 66 feet, a rod is 16.5 feet, and a link is 7.92 inches. Ten square chains make an acre. Old deeds measured them in U.S. survey feet, which differ from today's foot by 2 parts per million, too little to matter for everyday use.
